2 - Sea Shanty Charm Bracelet by Camilla Frayling

Shiney Company

This seaside inspired charm bracelet is quick and easy to make. We’ve created little fish from wire and CRYSTALLIZED™ – Swarovski Elements for unique and personal charms. With three flowing strands and various sea inspired beady charms this is a must have summer bracelet.

Gather these supplies
  • 1 Silver plated 3 strand bar clasp
  • 60cms Silver plated charm chain
  • 30 Silver plated thin/soft headpins
  • Approx. 28 x Silver plated 6.8mm jump rings
  • 60cms Silver plated 0.8mm craft wire
  • 1.2m Silver plated 0.4mm craft wire
  • A selection of beads including:
  • green shell nuggets, blue erose beads, pink shells, light green, night blue, light blue dark grey and white CRYSTALLIZED™ – Swarovski Elements Pearls. Sand opal, mint alabaster, Carribean blue opal, JetAB2x, light azore, chrysollite 6mm CRYSTALLIZED™ – Swarovski Elements Bicones/Xillion beads.
  • Snipe Nose Pliers
  • Round Nose Pliers
  • Wire Cutters
  • Flat Nose Pliers

Here’s how

1 Fish charms - With a 20cm piece of 0.8mm silver plated craft wire, make a small figure of eight shape with one side slightly larger than the other shaping the smaller side into a triangle with your flat nose pliers (total length of fish approx. 20mm).

2 Use the overlapping wires to secure the shape in the middle where it crosses and trim any excess wire, squashing sharp ends with your snipe nose pliers. Hammer the body and tail with a chasing hammer on a steel block; do not hammer the centre where you have secured the wire.

3 To embellish the fish take a 40cm length of 0.4mm wire and secure on the edge of the frame at the tail. Thread on a selection of 4mm CRYSTALLIZED™ – Swarovski Elements Crystals and Pearls in sea inspired colours, enough to reach the opposite side of the frame and wrap the wire around the opposite edge.

3 Continue adding crystals and threading backwards and forwards across the frame, wrapping at the egde, until you have embellished the whole fish. Wrap the end around the frame, snip the wire and squash the end with your snipe nose pliers. Make 3 fish and set aside.

4 Cut 3 x 20cm pieces of chain and attach each end to the loops on your clasp using jump rings. Turn your remaining beads into charms by threading them onto thin/soft headpins and make a wrapped loop on each one (you may wish to directly attach the wrapped loop to the chain, alternatively you can use jump rings see Step 5). Add a jump ring to the tail of each fish.

5 Arrange and attach your bead charms and fish to the 3 strands of chain with jump rings or by directly attaching the wrapped loops the chain for a more secure finish.

3 - Seaweed Charm Bracelet by Melanie Brooke

Beads by Lili

An unusual take on the sea theme, the use of ‘textile’ seaweed fronds on a traditional style charm bracelet.

Gather these supplies
  • 7-8inch Medium Curb Silver Plated Chain (to fit your wrist size)
  • 2 10mm silver plated jump rings
  • 1 Medium silver plated trigger clasp
  • 12 10mm Opaque Aqua round glass beads
  • 6 green glass ovals
  • 6 coated acrylic star charms
  • 6 2inch strips of 2mm thick silk cord in green
  • 1.5inch Silver Plated Headpins
  • 4mm and 5mm Silver plated jump rings
  • Mix of blue and green seed beads
  • Craft or Super Glue

Here’s how

1 Begin by making the basic bracelet chain, measuring how long you need it to be allowing for the addition of a 10mm jump ring on either end and the trigger clasp (connect either directly onto one of the large jump rings or via a 4mm jump ring if desired).

2 Make beaded charms with the 10mm glass beads and Oval glass beads by threading a seed bead onto a headpin, then the bead and turning a simple loop on the top (trim wire length of pin if necessary).

3 Attach alternate round & oval charms every 3 or so links along the chain.

4 Attach the six star charms (evenly spaced) to the chain with some of the 5mm jump rings.

5 Dip each cut end of the silk cord strips into watered down craft glue (this will stop them fraying too quickly).  Let them dry thoroughly.

6.  Thread then tie the silk cord strands into the chain spaced evenly between the charms using simple overhand knots.  Pull each knot tight and use a tiny drop of super glue to seal each knot in place.

8 - Pirate Bracelet by Julie Ashford

Spellbound Bead Co

Wrapped loops, jump rings and simple knots make this pirate inspired bracelet really look the part. You can use a variety of coloured glass beads but the theme is pulled together with antique silver colour beads, pewter pirate charms and an intricately patterned sterling silver clasp.

Gather these supplies
  • 2 pirate skull charms
  • 2 cutlass charms
  • 8 8mm - 12mm blue/green glass beads (or bead combinations) for the eight links around the wrist
  • 32 4mm faceted blue/green beads for the thread dangles
  • 10 6mm - 8mm blue/green glass beads for additional danglers
  • 5 6mm - 10mm antique silver coloured beads
  • 16 4mm antique silver pipped edge washers
  • 31 6mm silver plated thick jump rings
  • 2m 0.6mm silver plated half hard wire
  • 2m each of capri blue and seafoam coloured C-Lon macrame thread
  • 10 silver coloured 5cm headpins
  • 1 fancy antique silver coloured clasp

Here’s how

1 Lay out the bead selection for the main bracelet length. Each link needs to be made separately. Cut 12cm of 0.6mm wire. Make a wrapped loop at the end of the wire 4mm in diameter - thread on the bead/beads for the first link and make a second wrapped loop up close to the end of the bead(s) - see 2 and 3 for wrapped loop instructions if you are not sure how to do this.

2 To make a wrapped loop - grip the wire with round nosed pliers 4cm from the end of the length. Wrap the wire tightly around the plier nose to make a circle 4cm from the end of the wire. Wrap the short length of the wire twice around the long length just below the circle and trim away the excess short length.

3 Thread on the bead. 3mm from the far side of the bead grip the wire with the pliers. Wrap the wire around the pliers to make a circle 3mm from the bead. Wrap the tail of the wire twice around the stem showing between the bead and the circle. Trim the excess wire away.

4 Repeat to complete eight separate links for the bracelet length. Using 6mm jump rings join the links together and add the clasp to each end of the design.

5 Cut 2 x 20cm of macrame thread (one of each colour). Fold the first length in half and push the fold through a new 6mm jump ring. Pass the two ends of the thread through the loop of the fold and pull to join the thread to the ring with a Lark's Head knot.

6 Repeat to add the other thread to the same ring. Bring the four thread ends alongside one another opposite the break in the jump ring. Pick up the two middle ends (one of each colour) and tie together with a simple overhand knot up close to the ring - this secures the threads.

7 Onto the first thread end pass 1 x 4mm glass bead. Tie a knot in the thread just below the bead to make a dangle strand. Repeat with the second strand. For the third strand add 1 x 4mm glass bead and a small pipped edge washer. Make a knot below the washer. Repeat with the fourth thread end.

8 Repeat steps 5,6 and 7 for seven more jump rings.

9 Lay out the remaining beads - these need to be made into dangles on the headpins. Decide on ten different combinations; thread onto the headpins and make a wrapped loop just above the beads on all ten pins.

10 Lay out the bracelet length. Allocate one thread dangle to each of the jump ring gaps between the beads on the main strand except the link next to the bar end of the clasp.

11 Decide where you want to add in the charms and the prepared dangles made in step 9.

12 Use a 6mm jump ring to add the charms into the chosen gaps - link onto the jump ring already between the bracelet links and not onto the wrapped loops at the ends of the links.

13 Use a new 6mm jump ring to bring together the thread dangle jump ring and the top loop on the headpin dangles for each gap and link those into place as well.

14 Check all the jump rings are properly closed before wearing.

9 - Tropical Fish Charm bracelet by Julie Ashford

Spellbound Bead Co

This quick and easy bracelet can be made and ready to wear on the beach in 20 minutes.

Gather these supplies
  • 20cm 7-link silver plated curb chain
  • A bracelet clasp
  • 7 6mm silver plated jump ring
  • 5 25mm handmade blue and green fish beads
  • 5 5cm silver plated headpins
  • 10 size 10/0 neutral colour seed beads

Here’s How

1 Thread a seed bead, a fish and a seed bead onto a headpin.  Make a wrapped loop 3mm above the top seed bead - if you are not sure how to make a wrapped loop see (2).

2 3mm from the far side of the seed bead grip the wire with your round nosed pliers. Wrap the wire around the pliers to make a 4mm diameter circle just 3mm above the seed bead. Wrap the tail of the wire twice around the stem showing between the bead and the circle. Trim the excess wire away.

3 Repeat to complete five separate fishy dangles for the bracelet length.

4 Cut the chain to the correct size for your wrist and add the clasp to either end with 6mm jump rings.

5 Count the number of links around the bracelet length. Divide them by five to get the correct distance between each of the charms. Link the charms into place with the remaining jump rings.

10 - Sea Shell Charm Bracelet by Julie Ashford

Spellbound Bead Co

Handmade glass seashell beads, stars and beads the colours and textures of the seashore link together with short lengths of chain to make a summery bracelet.

Gather these supplies
  • 1 string of handmade glass shell beads
  • 4 10mm teal AB glass stars with a top loop
  • 18 6-9mm teal/sand and creamy coloured glass beads to make the dangles
  • 2 10mm wire star charms
  • 10 6mm thick silver jump rings
  • 15cm 7mm link silver plated curb chain
  • 15 5cm silver plated headpins
  • 1 Silver plated toggle clasp
  • 1m 0.6mm half hard silver plated wire
  • A pinch of size 10/0 seed beads in cream, pink and teal

Here’s how

1 Choose four of the shell beads to make up the main bracelet chain. Each link needs to be made separately. Cut 15cm of 0.6mm wire.  Make a wrapped loop at the end of the wire 4mm in diameter - thread on the bead for the first link and make a second wrapped loop up close to the other end of the bead - see 2 and 3 for wrapped loop instructions if you are not sure how to do this.

4 Repeat to complete four separate links for the bracelet length.

5 Cut four short lengths of chain each with 4 links. Lay out the chain lengths and the prepared bead links in an alternating pattern. Using 6mm jump rings join the pattern together and add the clasp to each end of the design.

6 Choose four shells to make dangles. Thread a seed bead and the first shell onto a headpin. Make a wrapped loop just above the bead. Repeat with the other three selected shells.

7 Lay out the remaining larger beads to decorate the remaining headpins. Each pin will need a seed bead at the bottom to act as a stopper, then add the large bead and one, two or three seed beads before making a wrapped loop. You can add an extra beaded link with 0.6mm wire to the top of some of the pins if you wish.

8 Prepare the metal and glass star charms by attaching a jump ring to the top loop of each item.

9 Lay out the design - ignore the 6mm jump rings attaching the clasp to the main string but allocate out all of the prepared dangles, in a pleasing pattern, across the other seven jump rings across the main bracelet length.

10 Twist open the jump ring attaching the first shell of the main string to the adjacent chain length and slip on the dangles you have chosen for that position. Repeat across the whole length of the design.

11 Check the jump rings are securely closed before wearing.

4 Cut 4-8 more 8cm lengths of wire to form the 4mm Swarovski spiral units. Using round nose pliers form a spiral using two thirds of the wire, and then bend the wire at a right angle before adding a 4mm crystal and forming a wrapped loop. Repeat for the number of units being created.

5 Attach all units and charms to the elasticated bracelet by opening the jump rings that make up the actual bracelet, and inserting the unit or charm and then closing.

19 - Low Tide by Rebecca Hughes

Weave a length of 0.4mm wire onto the centre of you bracelet and add pearls and peridot chips as you create a line of wrapped embellishments around the front of the bracelet reminiscent of an in-coming tide. Finish with a cluster at the clasp and a cute shell charm.

Gather these supplies
  • 16 5mm White fresh water pearls
  • Peridot chips
  • 1 Seashell charm
  • 40cm 0.4mm Silver plated wire
  • Silver plated medium curb chain
  • 1 Lobster clasp
  • 3 Silver plated jump rings

Here’s how

1 Cut the chain to fit around your wrist. Cut a 30cm piece of 0.4mm wire. Secure the wire to the chain about a quarter of the way along by wrapping it around a link several times.

2 Begin to wind the wire through the chain adding on pearls and peridot chips as you work your way along. Keep winding until you reach a point where you have a quarter of the chain remaining. Finish the end of the wire securely by wrapping around the chain several times and snip any excess.

3 Attach a jump ring to either end of the chain and a lobster clasp to one side.

4 Create a beaded cluster of pearls and chips with the remaining 10cm piece of silver plated wire, simply thread on a bead and twist the wire, then thread on another bead. Snip any excess wire and conceal the end in the centre of the cluster.

5 Add a jump ring to the cluster, connect to the end of the chain and add on the seashell charm to finish.
