01 - Amethyst Silver Spiral Bracelet by Lynne Riddell

Moon Beads

This delicate bracelet is made with sterling silver beads and amethyst gemstones threaded onto memory wire.  It is very easy to make as no clasp is needed – the memory wire simply wraps round your wrist.

Gather these supplies

  • 18 30mm sterling silver curved tube beads
  • 17 4mm round amethyst gemstone beads
  • 102 tiny sterling silver spacer beads
  • 2 sterling silver flower charms
  • Approximately 4 loops of memory wire in one piece
  • (please note – different makes of memory wire vary in size.  The curved tube beads used in this design may not fit memory wire bought from other suppliers)

Here’s how
  1. Using round nosed pliers, turn a loop in one end of the memory wire leaving a small gap.
  2. Thread one of the flower charms onto the loop and close the loop completely.
  3. Thread one curved tube bead, three tiny spacer beads, one amethyst bead and another three tiny spacer beads onto the wire.
  4. Repeat step 3 a further 15 times until you are left with one curved tube.
  5. Thread the last curved tube onto the wire.
  6. Cut the remaining memory wire so that approximately 6mm of wire projects beyond the last curved tube.
  7. Turn a loop at the end of the memory wire leaving a small gap – thread on the remaining flower charm and then close the loop completely.

04 - Midnight Rose Bracelet by Jenny Williams

Jenny’s Bead Box

This bracelet teams gorgeous polymer clay rose beads with sterling silver, Swarovski crystal and opaque glass for added drama.

Gather these supplies
  • 10” (25 cm) 0.18” diameter silver colour 49 strand beading wire e.g. Soft flex or Flex rite
  • 1 Sterling silver heart toggle clasp
  • 3 Dark purple Fimo rose beads
  • 4 Round 7mm opaque glass beads in amethyst purple
  • 8 Round 5mm diameter sterling silver beads
  • 14 6mm Swarovski bicone beads in Amethyst
  • 2 Sterling silver 2mm by 2mm tube crimps
  • Wire cutters
  • Crimping pliers

Here’s how
  1. Slide a crimp tube onto the beading wire, followed by the heart portion of the clasp.
  2. Thread approximately one inch of the beading wire back through the crimp (so that there is a double thickness of wire passing through the crimp tube), push the crimp bead up so that it is very close to the clasp, and secure by crimping with crimping pliers.
  3. Thread on a 5mm silver bead, an Amethyst bicone, an opaque glass bead, a bicone, another silver bead, a bicone, a Fimo rose and another bicone, making sure that the first few beads cover both strands of beading wire and hide the end.
  4. Continue threading beads onto the wire, repeating the sequence given in Step 3 twice more.
  5. Finish the bead stringing by adding a silver bead, a bicone, an opaque glass bead, another bicone and the final silver bead.  You should now have a symmetrical design, with one of the Fimo roses in the centre.
  6. Thread on another crimp tube, then the bar portion of the clasp.  Double the beading wire back through the crimp, as in Step 2, as well as through the last few beads. Tighten as much as possible, then secure once again by crimping the tube using crimping pliers.
  7. Trim the end of the beading wire as closely as you can between beads – you should find that the cut end is now easily hidden inside one of the beads for a neat finish.

05 - Lilac Scrunch Bracelet by Jenny Williams

Jenny’s Bead Box

Team pretty Czech druk beads in shades of lilac with a pre-fabricated ‘scrunchie’ chain, for a ridiculously easy charm bracelet with plenty of sparkle.

Gather these supplies
  • 1 Rhodium plated bungee (scrunchie) chain bracelet
  • 64 Round 4mm Czech druk beads in Lilac Mix
  • 64 Silver plated headpins
  • Wire cutters
  • Round nose pliers

Here’s how
  1. Slip a single druk bead onto each headpin.
  2. Use round nose pliers to make a wrapped loop in each headpin, as close to the druk bead as you can.  Trim the excess headpin using wire cutters, and use pliers to squeeze the cut end in so that it doesn’t catch on clothing.
  3. You should now have 64 tiny beaded ‘dangles’.  Group these into four sets of 3, and another four sets of 5.
  4. Find one of the round jump rings on the bungee bracelet (they come with 8 jump rings already attached – very handy!), open slightly with pliers and add 3 of your beaded dangles.  Close the jump ring again.
  5. Moving on to the next jump ring along, repeat step 4 but this time add 5 beaded dangles.
  6. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for the remaining six jump rings, and you’re all done!  Told you it was easy…

06 - Lavender Twist by Anna Weller

Big Bead Little Bead

Spiral rope stitched bracelet in soft purple and lilac with a silver core.  Fire polished Czech glass beads give a subtle vintage-style sparkle.  This produces a bracelet approximately 18.5cm in length before the clasp fittings are added.  To adjust the length, add or remove a spiral or two from each section, but remember to also adjust the number of fire polished beads on your supply list.

Gather these supplies
  • 1 x Spool of Nymo Thread Size D White (0.3mm)
  • 1 x 10g pack of Amethyst Silver-Lined Czech Seed Beads  (11/0 size)
  • 1 x 10g pack of Crystal Silver-Lined Czech Seed Beads (11/0 size)
  • 40 x 4mm Amethyst Round Fire Polished Czech Glass Beads
  • 40 x 4mm Alexandrite Round Fire Polished Czech Glass Beads
  • 5 x 4mm Silver-Plated Round Beads
  • 2 x 7mm x 4mm Silver-Plated Calottes
  • 1 x 4mm Silver-Plated Jump Ring
  • 1 x 13mm Silver-Plated Trigger Clasp
  • You will also need a beading needle, scissors, a pair of chain nose and a pair of round nose pliers.

Here’s how
  1. Cut a length of Nymo and pull taut to stretch. Cut as much as you feel comfortable working with.
  2. Divide up your fire polished beads by colour into groups of twenty.  Each beaded section has twenty spirals, and each spiral one fire polished bead.  Having the fire polished beads pre-counted will save you having to count the number of spirals you are making as you stitch them (not always easy)
  3. Thread on four crystal silver-lined seed beads, an amethyst silver-lined seed bead, an amethyst round fire polished glass bead and another amethyst silver-lined seed bead.  Tie into a circle using an overhand knot.  You will need to leave a tail that is about 30 cm in length.  Then pass your needle back through all four of the crystal silver-lined seed beads, so the thread exits at the end of the four.
  4. Thread on one crystal seed bead, one amethyst seed bead, one amethyst fire polished bead and one amethyst seed bead.  Now thread your needle through the final three crystal beads and the new one just added (in that order).  Pull thread taut.
  5. Repeat this sequence until you have threaded on twenty of your amethyst round fire polished glass beads.  You should now have a neat spiral about 35mm long.
  6. Now thread on five crystal silver-lined seed beads, one amethyst silver-lined seed bead and then another five crystal silver-lined seed beads.  Form a circle by taking the thread back through the final (top) amethyst seed bead in the spiral sequence.  Thread on one 4mm silver-plated round bead and pass the thread through the amethyst seed bead on the opposite side of the circle.
  7. Thread on four crystal silver-lined seed beads, an amethyst silver-lined seed bead, an alexandrite round fire polished glass bead and another amethyst silver-lined seed bead.  Pass the needle through all of these beads again and then also pass your way around the seed beads encircling the 4mm silver-plated round bead.  This serves to anchor the new spiral and to give a better shape to the circle of crystal seed beads.  When you reach the top of the circle pass your needle back up the four crystal seed beads to exit with your thread at the end of the four.
  8. Thread on one crystal seed bead, one amethyst seed bead, one alexandrite fire polished bead and one amethyst seed bead.  Now thread your needle through the final three crystal beads and the new one just added (in that order).  Pull thread taut.
  9. Repeat this sequence until you have threaded on twenty of your alexandrite round fire polished glass beads.  You should now have a neat spiral about 35mm long.
  10. Now repeat the instruction for forming the encircled silver-plated bead and then switch back to using the amethyst round fire-polished glass beads for the next spiral.  Repeat the instructions for forming the encircled silver-plated bead and then finish with a spiral using the alexandrite round fire-polished beads.  Finish off with one more encircled silver-plated bead.
  11. Head back to the end that you started your spiral from and check that the thread at this end exits through the final amethyst silver lined seed bead in the spiral.  If it doesn’t then pass the thread through this bead so that it does. Now thread on five crystal silver-lined seed beads, one amethyst silver-lined seed bead and then another five crystal silver-lined seed beads.  Form a circle by taking the thread back through the final (top) amethyst seed bead in the spiral sequence.  Thread on one 4mm silver-plated round bead and pass the thread through the amethyst seed bead on the opposite side of the circle, and this time thread your needle around the circle a second time exiting through the amethyst seed bead at the top.
  12. Thread a silver-plated calotte, pick up a crystal silver-line seed bead and tie an overhand knot that passes through the seed bead.  Before pulling the thread taut make sure the seed bead is comfortably positioned within the calotte.  Then pass the needle back out through the hole in the base of the calotte and back through several of the crystal silver-lined beads in the loop beneath the calotte, tie an overhand or half-hitch knot, then pass the needle through a few more of the seed beads in the loop and tie another knot.  Continue until you are directly under the calotte and then pass the needle back through the calotte and tie off the thread using the seed bead ‘anchor’.  Cut the thread and gently close the calotte using pliers.  Repeat to finish the other end of the bracelet.  Then attach one calotte to the jump ring, and the other to the loop on the trigger clasp using chain nose pliers to close the calotte loops.

Tools – Side cutter, Round, and Flat Nosed Pliers – only needed to make dangles

Here’s How

  2. Attach any pendants to dangles using jump rings -. open a jump ring by gripping each side with a set of pliers and pushing the ends forwards and backwards to avoid distorting the shape. Hook it through the pendant, then the loop on the bead dangle and close.
  3. Make dangles with beads by threading a bead onto a headpin and using flat nosed pliers bend the pin over by 90 degrees, trim to about 7mm using the side cutters. Grip the end of the pin with round nosed pliers and roll a loop, hang onto the loop on the bead dangle, then fully close.
  4. Fasten a clip onto the flat area next to the hinged clip. Slip on all the beads, clipping on the clips as you come to them, ending with a clip. This will stop the beads from falling off when you open and close the bracelet.
