Dominican dreams earrings - Use cocoa beads to create a gorgeous pair of beach time earrings

Jane Platts shows you how to create a stunning pair of earrings ideal for dressed-up beach wear!

Reminiscent of long sandy beaches and warm turquoise seas, these coco wooden earrings are easy to create using a simple chain stitch and easy to use mercerized cotton.

GATHER THESE SUPPLIES

  • 32 Erose shell coffee beads
  • 2 Small coco shell rings
  • Twilleys lyscordet Number 5, 100% mercerized cotton in cream
  • 4 Antique brass medium jump rings
  • 2 Antique brass fishhooks
  • Wire cutters
  • Blunt ended needle
  • Number 1 crochet hook

HERE’S HOW
  1. Thread 16 coco wood heishi beads onto your cotton reel.
  2. Begin chain stitch and with each stitch bring a bead up to the hook, remembering to make the stitch lengths very small as this is what gives the cluster effect. Work 16 beads onto the earring.
  3. When you have added all the beads, work several buttonhole stitches over the last chain to secure, the do the same with the starting tail.
  4. Thread a jump ring through a chain stitch and one of the small coco shell rings then close, add another jump ring with an ear wire. Make a second earring for a matching pair.
